Tennessees's First Learning Center to be Accredited by SACS & CITA

Students can earn high school credit during the summer. Students will be required to complete a certain number of seat hours and pass the course as mandated by the principal at their current high school or the students may work to mastery of the subject. The length of the course will depend on the student's ability and motivation to do well.

The Honors Learning Center was the first learning center in Tennessee to be fully accredited by SACS (Southern Association of Colleges and Schools) and CITA (Commission on International and Transregional Accreditation). Our accreditation allows us to offer high school credit and to have students attend the Honors Learning Center in lieu of summer school in order to be promoted.

Advantages of taking courses for high school credit at the Honors Learning Center include:
  • Completely individualized course
  • One-on-one attention
  • Quiet environment
  • Parent/director communication

  • When the Honors Learning Center is asked by a school to provide a class for credit, there are several procedures which must be followed.

    1.  The parent must call to provide the necessary information for the child. If the parent makes the first contact with the Honors Learning Center, the guidance office at the student's school will be contacted to get approval.

    2.  The parent must understand the costs involved and the time requirements for their particular situation. The tuition is $32 per hour of class time. The school will often decide if the student must have a certain number of hours or if the student will work to mastery. Mastery indicates that the student will pass the final exam.

    3.  The parents must set up a test time for the child. Testing generally takes two hours and is followed by a conference with the parents. Parents will be required to sign the tuition acknowledgement form, release of information form, and the policy sheet.

    4.  The Honors requests that the parent provide a copy of the students report cards or transcript, as well as any standardized testing (TCAP, ACT, SAT, etc.)

    5.  After confirming the arrangement with the school, the Honors Learning Center will fax (or mail) a release form to the guidance counselor for the principal to sign. This form must be returned to the Honors by fax (or mail).

    6.  After testing, a class schedule will be arranged for the student. Students are expected to adhere to the schedule and not let other activities interfere with the schedule.

    7.  The pre-admission test fee is due on the day of the test as well as a $32 deposit on the tuition. Several payment options are available. We accept cash, checks, and major credit cards. We prefer to have payment at the beginning of the month. However, you may pay by the week if need be. If paying by the week, all fees for the month must be paid no later than the end of the month. No credit grade will be reported to the student, the parent, or to the school until full payment is made.

    8.  There is no group teaching. Every student's program is completely individualized. One of the advantages to the student is that the teacher is always at the table, explaining directions, making sure that the skills are understood, and giving immediate positive feedback.

    9.  Upon completion of the credit and full payment of the account, the grade will be mailed to the school.
